Dan Schutte comes to St. Boniface
Introducing Dan Schutte in concert—not just a performance of his music, but an evening of stories, prayer and reflection woven around his songs. Attendees have commented that it feels more like a retreat than a concert. And that’s the effect Dan hopes to create. “The music is not about “Dan Schutte,” but about the faithful God who loves us unconditionally.”
He grew up in Elm Grove and graduated from Marquette University High School. He was one of the founding members of the St. Louis Jesuits who popularized a contemporary style of church music set to sacred texts (sung in English) as a result of the liturgical reforms initiated by Vatican II. Who is this man?
Dan Schutte — world-renowned composer, songwriter, liturgist, author, and our esteemed guest on Friday, Dec. 10, when he will perform for us in concert in Boniface Hall. Some of Dan’s well-known compositions are “City of God” (1981), “You Are Near” (1971), “Though the Mountains May Fall” (1975), “Sing a New Song” (1972), “Glory and Praise to Our God” (1976) and “Table of Plenty” (1992).
Concert tickets will go on sale Nov. 6 and 7, after all Masses. We expect a full house and seating is limited. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 12 and under. Adding to the excitement, on Dec. 11 (the following day), Dan will hold exclusive workshops for cantors and other members of our Parish Music Ministry.
