Baptism is the primary sign of initiation into the family of God. In addition, we feel it is also initiation into the parish community. Therefore, baptisms are celebrated on the 2nd and 4th weekends during any of our regular Mass times so the community may share in the proclamation of faith of your child. It is also an opportunity to remind the congregation of their own baptism and renewal of their Faith.
Because of the focus associated with the preparation for the Christmas & Easter Season, no baptisms will be celebrated during the Advent and Lenten Seasons.
Pope John Paul II once stated "in the case of Baptism of children, efforts to catechize the parents and godparents should not be spared" (Ecclesia in America, 34). Baptism is such an exciting time for families. Your parish family of St. Boniface wants to join in that celebration! We also want you to fully understand the commitment you are making when deciding to baptize your children as Catholics. When having your child baptized at St. Boniface, parents (godparents are also encouraged) must attend a preparation class. In the case of preceding children, once the class has been taken, parents need not take it again for three years. Although not necessary, we encourage parents to take the class prior to the birth of their baby or once adoption arrangements are certain.
When selecting Godparents for your child, at least one Godparent must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and the other must be Christian. To register for your class, or for more information, please contact the parish office at 262-628-2040.
