Curriculum Enhancements

St. Boniface recognizes educational experience is about more than just learning from a book. We provide excellent activities to enhance learning in all grades, including Art Fairs, Christmas and Spring Music Concerts, Geography Bees and Spelling Bees as well as the following sampling of activities and programs.

Reading and Writing Specialist

A full-time reading and writing specialist is on staff to improve the educational outcomes for students in the primary and intermediate grades. The specialist provides small group activities for students to boost reading comprehension and writing skills. The specialist also offers help with study techniques and coordinates a student newspaper. Students are responsible for selecting topics, gathering information through reading or interviews, writing the articles and editing before school-wide publication.

Math Specialist

St. Boniface also boasts a volunteer math specialist who strives to improve the mathematics achievements of all students through work with individual students and small groups. At the end of the school year, a math fair promoting mathematics as a fun endeavor is held for the whole school in St. Boniface Hall.

Differentiated Math

In middle school, students are placed into math classes according to their abilities and needs. Some students are placed in a program whereby pre-algebra is completed in 8th grade; others are placed in an accelerated program which allows them to complete Algebra I in 8th grade. The mathematics curriculum at St. Boniface School builds an excellent foundation for high school and provides the opportunity for all students to succeed, while feeling confident in their abilities, and proud of their achievements.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement provides hands-on, experiential programs that teach key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and finance. In kindergarten through 5th grade, students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. In the middle school, teens prepare for their educational and professional futures. The program supplements social studies curriculum and helps students develop communication skills.

Too Good For Drugs & Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

St. Boniface is proud to offer a complete curriculum of drug prevention beginning in Kindergarten and running through 8th grade. These programs teach students good decision making skills to help them avoid high-risk behavior to ensure they grow up healthy, safe and secure

Folk Fair

Students in 3rd grade research a country of their choice at the public library. They write a five-paragraph essay, create a PowerPoint presentation, and fashion a booth display depicting their chosen country. The final celebration of learning is a Folk Fair where parents and all St. Boniface students are invited to attend. During the Fair, 3rd grade students give their PowerPoint presentations and host parents and students at their booths sharing their knowledge of a different culture which may include ethnic food, dress and artwork.

State of Wisconsin Project

Fourth grade students study the State of Wisconsin. They learn about our state by taking field trips to museums andhistorical locations which may include: Wisconsin State Capitol (bi-annually), Washington County Historical Society, Shalom Wildlife Center, and Ye Olde School in West Bend. 4th graders research and write a “Wisconsin Book” aswell as an historical essay in which they interview a relative from a previous generation.

Olympic Games Day

The 6th grade holds an Olympic Games Day at the conclusion of their unit on Greece. Activities include Tongue Twisters, Art Recognition (Pictionary-type competition), Javelin Throwing (bean-bag toss), Boxing (identifying items in the box from memory) and Music Appreciation (humming a tune). Students design their city-state’s flag, construct a pledge with goals and cheer winners the Greek way. Hail! Hail! Athletes.

Current Events News Game

Sixth through 8th grade participate in a weekly current events news game. Students report on news happenings throughout the world, country and state to gain an understanding of important events.
